My First Mod - Smok H-Priv 2 Review

Purchasing your first mod can be a minefield when looking online, people throw terms around like 'Sub Ohm tanks' 'RDA' & 'Mechanical Mod' which can be fairly intimidating to a newbie or someone looking to dip their toes into the vape community...I was lucky, I had a friendly local vape shop called Stylex Party who helped me choose my first mod using my budget and what I was looking for it to do, I can honestly say if you have a good vape shop nearby use their knowledge especially when starting out to make informed decisions about what you want to achieve.
Anyway let’s dig down into the meat of the device I chose - The Smok H-Priv 2 and what my thoughts are about it and if it's a worthy addition to your collection.

What's In The Box??

  • 1 H-PRIV 2 225W Box Mod
  • 1 SMOK TFV12 Big Baby Prince Tank
  • 1 0.4ohm V8 Baby-Q4 Quadruple Coil
  • 1 0.15ohm V8 Baby-T12 Duodecuple Coil
  • 1 Spare Glass Tube
  • 1 MicroUSB Cable
  • Spare Parts & O-Rings
  • Instructional Manual
As we can see the H-Priv 2 comes with the usual fayre for a Smok mod including a couple of coils and a pretty decent tank in the for of the TFV12 Baby Prince

Manufacturing Quality

In standard Smok fashion, the H-Priv 2 comes in a wide range of colours and the bundled tank comes in a matching color which gives the entire kit a clean and uniform look.
The Smok H-Priv 2 feels well put together without any annoying wiggle or rattle felt or heard throughout the mod when used or moved about, giving a solid feel which is always sought after in all devices. The firing bar located off to the side of the mod is nice and chunky for bigger hands like mine.
Firing the mod feels satisfying and responsive thanks to the tactility and stability that the firing bar offers, and misfires or accidental pressing of the firing bar is a rare occasion if not absent altogether.
The spring loaded 510 connection located at the top of the mod isn’t centered due to it having to make room for the OLED display also located up top. Personally, I’m not a big fan of the tiny minimalist display,  but my eyesight is terrible so that may be part of my reasoning, although a few of my friends have said they like it as it doesn't get in the way of the nice design of the body of the mod.
The dual 18650 batteries are installed and removed at the bottom of the mod via the trapdoor which securely locks in place. One minor niggle is that the colour has rubbed off of the bottom of the mod very qucik with very little abuse or abrasion to it so maybe think about a little extra protection of your mod's base

Flavor Quality
Alongside the Big Baby Prince tank, the kit also comes with a V8 Baby-Q4 coil which is pre-installed. Built with quad coils and wicked with all-organic Japanese cotton, the Q4 produces some of the most intensely flavorful vapes to be experienced with pre-built coils.
If you’re more of a cloud chaser, the kit has you covered as well with the inclusion of the T12 coil head consisting of a staggering amount of 12 (twelve!) coils built into the thing, guaranteeing that you’ll be the belle of the ball when it comes to outputting the most amount of vapor.
Take note though that the T12 coil head practically gulps e-liquid so you’ll be refilling the tank pretty often when using these.

Power Flexibility

If vaping on the Big Baby Prince tank isn’t your thing, you’ll have the freedom to use any atomizer with a maximum diameter of 27mm. Anything larger than that and you’re going to get some overhang.
Thanks to the wide atomizer compatibility and the huge power range on the Smok H-Priv 2, you can power pretty much any kind of build your heart desires whether it might be an intense, cloud chasing setup, or a cool and relaxed build.
Aside from the standard variable wattage mod, the Smok H-Priv 2 also supports the entire gamut of temperature coils such as nickel, stainless steel, and titanium. The onboard chipset also supports intelligent atomizer recognition, meaning that as soon as you slap on a new coil build on the mod, the wattage automatically adjusts to the recommended power setting based on the coils resistance.
Basic safety features such as short circuit protection, over-heating protection, and an over discharge protection are also built into the chip preventing any untoward accidents.

Ease of Use

Like most devices, the Smok H-Priv 2 is powered on and off by a simple 5 clicks on the firing bar. Further adjustments to the menu or various vaping modes can be made by clicking the firing bar 3 times.
Navigating the menu is pretty straightforward as Smok seems to have taken a simplified and more streamlined approach when it comes to the firmware of the mod, drastically lowering the learning curve making it a relatively easier device for beginners to use.
When it comes to maintenance of the Big Baby Prince tank, filling it up is easy as pie thanks to their refined locking system on the top cap. A simple push of a button on the top cap is all it takes to swivel it open, revealing the fill holes to drip e-liquid into. The tank also carries a good 6ml of e-liquid making frequent refills non-existent.

Conclusion

The Smok H-Priv 2 brings good value to the table thanks to its solid construction, simple design, and powerful performance. While it might not be the most portable of devices, thanks to its bulky dimensions and weight, the battery life more than makes up for it.
